Even though life is easier in Kuwait (with all the paid help), there’s always a sense of tension, at least for me. Can’t explain it but even as busy as life gets in the US, there are always moments of serenity.
Today was the first day I started missing domestic help. I’ve been up since 7, made breakfast, coffee, took a trip to Home Depot for a home project, went grocery shopping, carried my bags myself (gasp), put them all away, made lunch, organized and cleaned the entire kitchen without help, did 2 loads of laundry, and now have dinner in the oven. I think this is about the first time I’ve sat down today. I keep telling myself, “it’s good exercise!” as a way to make it all seem OK.
But, you’re right, as tough as all those daily tasks feel right now, there’s definitely a sense of serenity (and satisfaction) that comes with it all. And our new puppy went swimming in the lake today — that made me smile.
